Though it seems like summer in Seattle just started, we still have several months to go until school starts back up in the fall, and you might still be looking for activities to keep your kids busy until after Labor Day. Here are some ideas for summer camp programs in the greater South Seattle area:
There are a few spots left for the August sessions of the Owl’s Odyssey Nature Adventure Camp at the Seward Park Audubon Center. Kids ages 10-14 will get to explore the trees and meadows of the park in their quest to find the mysterious owl, and the two-week camp is capped off with a night hike and overnight in the park. Register here!
The Mount Baker Community Clubhouse is hosting a series of Stone Soup Theater camps for kids ages 4-18 through the end of August. Camp-goers will get to use their imaginations and hone their acting skills through the tales of Snow White, The Hobbit, James and the Giant Peach, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and many more. The camp will take place at the Clubhouse and at Mt. Baker Park.
The Garfield High School Bulldogs Gymnastics Team is hosting a four-day camp July 28-31 for kids ages 6-13 of all experience levels. Kids will get to learn tumbling, the balance beam, and more from Garfield gymnastics coaches and members of the varsity gymnastics team. E-mail email@example.com to register.
There are a few spots left for the 8/11 session of the Wilderness Awareness School’s Nature Adventure Daycamp at Seward Park. Kids will learn about plants, mammals, birds and gain skills that will allow them to feel comfortable in nature. While most sessions are full, they encourage adding your kids to the waitlist, as spots often open up last minute.
Seattle Tilth’s Urban Farmers of the Future daycamp at the Rainier Beach Urban Farm (takes place next week, so hurry!) teaches kids about animal husbandry, gardening skills, insects, and plants, while also playing games, singing songs and making art. This is a great opportunity to get your kids familiar with urban farming at a young age! The camp is for kids ages 6-10.
