For more than 40 years, the Seward Park Clay Studio has served as an artists’ gathering place set among the greenery of the park on the shores of Lake Washington. Occupying a former bathhouse, the studio began as part of the City of Seattle’s “Arts in the Parks” program, but has operated as a non-profit since 1986. Today the studio hosts a wide variety of classes covering all disciplines of clay art, from hand forming and sculpture to wheelthrowing, plus classes for kids ages 5 and up.
The studio’s 30th annual winter holiday sale kicks off next Friday, December 5, and features the work of more than 40 local artists. You’ll have a chance to shop the sale until December 24, but the opening event will give you first pick of your favorite creations from resident and guest artists, and will also feature refreshments and beverages. If you’re looking for unique items to give as holiday gifts, this is a great place to find handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces of art.
A $10 donation is suggested for the opening night event, which runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., but admission is free for the remaining days of the sale (M-F 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Sat-Sun 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.).
If you’re interested in learning about clay art, registration is now open for the winter class session beginning January 5. Learn more about classes here!
