The Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center is holding a special event this year to raise money for its equipment and scholarship funds, and the December 7 winter gala will feature special guest Judy Rantz Willman, who will be especially exciting for any rowers in attendance. Judy will speak about her father, Joe Rantz, a member of the nine-man rowing team that won gold at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, and subject of the book The Boys in the Boat.
The gala begins at 5:30 p.m., and the $75 ticket price includes a seated dinner catered by St. Cloud’s. There will also be some excellent items up for bid in the live and silent auctions, including a Mariners fan package, a ride-along crew practice with the Husky women’s varsity crew, and a collection of 12 different wines from France.
MBRSC is also hosting its annual holiday open house starting at 5:30 on the 7th, which is free to the public and does not require a gala ticket. The Argosy Christmas Ship will perform that night at 6:15 just offshore of the boathouse.
